Growing up as a kid in South Africa, I only had one dream, and surprisingly it wasn’t to be a financial planner.  It was to be a professional drummer.  As I had no intention of being a struggling musician, I realized that the way for me to level the playing field with my friends who were becoming lawyers and accountants was to be smarter with my financial decisions than the average person.  This journey sparked in me a sincere interest in all things related to personal finance.  Investing, saving, and tax strategies all seriously caught my attention, which led me to pursue and achieve the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and CFP® certification.

After a decade of working intimately with retirees, I started Acacia Grove as I believe too many advisers take the easy route of generic rules-of-thumb when making recommendations.  I believe you’ve worked too hard to make your most important financial decisions based on a rule-of-thumb.
